Is Mobile Massage Covered by Insurance in Ontario?
By Josh Kennedy, RMT, July 11, 2026
Your extended health plan covers Registered Massage Therapy as a service, not a specific location. A mobile session at your home with a CMTO-registered RMT is claimable the same way a clinic visit would be.
Does location matter for coverage?
No. Insurance plans cover the service, RMT treatment from a Registered Massage Therapist, not the address where it happens. A session in your living room in Whitby, or at a rural address in Hampton or Solina, is treated the same as a session at a downtown clinic, as long as it's performed by a registered therapist and documented with a proper receipt. LYKE Massage provides mobile, at-home registered massage therapy across Durham Region, Ontario, and issues that receipt after every session.
Is it "fully covered"?
Not automatically. Coverage varies by plan and by your annual benefit limit. Most extended health plans reimburse a portion of RMT care rather than the full session cost, so it's worth checking your specific plan before assuming the amount.
Which plans typically reimburse RMT care?
Many major extended health plans include a Registered Massage Therapy benefit, including Canada Life, Sun Life, Manulife, Desjardins, Blue Cross, Great-West Life, and Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance. Exact coverage and limits depend on your specific plan.
How does billing actually work?
There's no direct billing to insurers. You pay for the session, and as a CMTO-registered RMT I provide an official receipt afterward, which includes the CMTO registration number, date, duration, services rendered, and amount paid. You submit that receipt to your insurer yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Is mobile massage covered by insurance the same way clinic massage is?
Yes. Extended health plans cover Registered Massage Therapy as a service, not a specific location. A session at your home with a CMTO-registered RMT is claimable the same way a clinic visit would be.
Does that mean my massage is fully covered?
Not necessarily. Coverage varies by plan and by your plan's annual limit. Most extended health plans reimburse a portion of RMT care rather than the full amount, so it's worth checking your specific plan details.
How does billing work? Do you bill my insurance directly?
No direct billing. You pay for the session, and you're given an official RMT receipt afterward that you submit to your insurer yourself.
What does the receipt need to include?
A proper RMT receipt includes the CMTO registration number, therapist name and credentials, date and duration of treatment, services rendered, and the amount paid. You get one after every session.
